FROM THE PAGE TO THE STAGE
The Basics of Dramatic Writing
This intensive workshop covers the fundamentals of dramatic writing in depth so that the tools and techniques that are learned can be applied to writing in any dramatic medium: plays, screenplays, teleplays or web series. In this workshop - students will explore: character development, the layers of dramatic conflict, inciting incidents and plot development. Through a series of fast-paced writing exercises, participants will create short scenes by constructing vivid characters and monologues for them. The workshop will conclude with realistic advice on how to start a career as a writer. Ms. Collier will discuss and refer students to writing fellowships in theatre, TV and film. She will review the application process – as well as professional etiquette.
MESSAGE TO MY YOUNG BROTHER/SISTER
Creative Writing Workshop
Through poetry, monologue, and scene writing – workshop participants will offer advice, warning, give confidence and understanding to the younger self…the younger brother. In an effort to foster the restorative and rehabilitative power of writing, “Messages to My Younger Brother/Sister” will provide literary coaching by utilizing an array of creative writing styles. In addition to creative writing – this workshop enhances the participants’ literacy skills by providing weekly analysis of literature in organizational skills.
